of Aussie Rock Gala Dinner is to be held at the Adelaide
Entertainment Centre, Friday July 23, 2010 |
The
“Legends of Aussie Rock Celebration Dinner”
recognised the achievements of Australia’s
rock superstars by giving the fans opportunity to
rub shoulders with legendary household names and
heroes of the Australian music world.
In 2010 we aim to
bring you an even better night of 'let your hair
down' entertainment that will take you back to a
time when everything was simply simple.
Review of the inaugural
2008 Legends of Aussie Rock Gala Dinner
“…it was an extraordinary night
that was on a par with the old Grand Prix and Clipsal
500 balls. This is going to be ‘the’
social event for SA each year as it gets bigger
and better. Support Act Ltd is proud to be the beneficiary
of such an event...”

This
year 30 years ago CHOIRBOYS was formed at founding
member Mark Gable’s home in Church Point
on the Northern Beaches of Sydney. 30 years
on and the terms perennial, exciting, exuberant
and thoroughly entertaining are still used to
describe what CHOIRBOYS are all about. It is
a fact that CHOIRBOYS have been entertaining
the young and old for 30 years, it is the fact
that they have sold multi-platinum albums and
it is a fact that they have survived when so
many others have fallen. CHOIRBOYS have achieved
legendary status in Australia and not just because
of their longevity; they have also achieved
this because they deliver time and time again.

With
a career spanning almost four decades in music,
theatre and television, Jon English is undoubtedly
one of Australia’s most loved and versatile
entertainers. Jon's dad, Syd, was a self taught
pianist, guitar player, and drummer. Syd bought
Jon his first guitar when Jon was 15, after
Jon's big sister took him to the Sydney stadium
to see the Beatles in concert in 1964. It was
about then that Jon decided he might like to
become a rock star too. After teaching himself
guitar, Jon joined his first band a year later.
One of the first songs he ever sang on stage
was 'Twist and Shout'. Ironically, one of Jon’s
teachers in high school wrote on his school
report 'lacks the discipline and self control
to ever become a success’. Seems that
comment was perfect motivation.

He
arrived in Australia when he was six years old.
A member of folk group, The Seekers, they had
a Number 1 hit in the United States with the
theme song for the film "Georgy Girl".
Their first number 1 hit in Britain came in
1964 with "I'll Never Find Another You".
Keith Potger performed the hit song "The
Carnival is Over" during the Brisbane 1988
World Expo Closing Ceremony. As the Seekers
continued to tour through the nineties and into
the millennium, fans were eager to hear more
of Keith as a solo singer, player and composer.
The time was ripe for his own solo CD, and so
in 2004 Keith Potger`s debut album SECRETS OF
THE HEART was released in Australia. Two more
CD releases & live performances followed
& continue as a major part
of Keith's current activities. full

Dave
Tice (Buffalo) & Mark Evans (ex AC/DC) are
two season- ed musicians who have evolved separately
and together to form Australia's premier hard-edged
acoustic duo. Their talents are now very much
in demand across the planet, in fact, the Known
Universe. Dave's powerful vocals and blues harp
and the driving swampy guitar work emanating
from Mark, bring new life to R'n'B classics
by Sam Cooke, Chuck Berry, Screamin' Jay Hawkins,
Robert Johnson and Eric Burdon that have also
influenced and enriched their original tunes.
Now known in Adelaide, Dave and Mark are looking
forward to serving up their respective
souls that has the local audiences crying for
more...good onya boys! full

There
aren’t too many people in Australia who
are not familiar with the harmonica playing
of David Blight, even if they might not know
the name. Every time you hear that favourite
of Australia’s rock anthems, KHE SANH
by Cold Chisel you will hear David’s distinctive
harp lines weaving in and out behind Jimmy Barnes’
vocals. He was and still is Cold Chisel’s
harp player of choice and has recorded and toured
with the band collectively and individually
throughout the years. David and long-time musical
collaborator, David Small, brother of Cold Chisel
bass guitarist Phil Small have played the Adelaide
traps for many years with their band, The Flyers
with the current line up featuring long time
friend and Rose Tattoo guitarist
Rob Riley. full

Australian
blues guitarist and singer Fiona Boyes soulful,
authoritative style — brilliantly displayed
on her current US release 'Blues Woman' —
has earned Boyes unprecedented international
recognition. For the past four years she’s
been a final five nominee in the Memphis based
Blues Music Awards, the only Australian ever
to be nominated in these awards, which are widely
recognised as the Grammies of the Blues. She
received a “Contemporary Blues Album of
the Year” nod in 2007 for her Yellow Dog
debut, the electric 'Lucky 13'. The next year
she garnered a ballot for “Contemporary
Female Blues Artist of the Year.” In 2009
she received an “Acoustic Blues Album
of the Year” nomination for the recording

DRESS CODE - SMART/NEAT CASUAL
|
We've
been very deliberate in our approach to this
event in making it as much fun as possible.
It's a night to remember and be entertained
by our hero's of the Australian music industry.
So, dress like you would if you were going to
a concert or heading out to see a rock 'n' roll
band. If the last time you did that was 20 or
30 years ago, then dress like that...we don't
mind so long as
you're comfortable. If you feel comfortable
in 'Black Tie' attire, then that's good to.
(Please note that comfortable does not mean
thongs, singlets and tracky's) |
