NEVER GONNA DIE…..
CHOIRBOYS 30th ANNIVERSARY
This year 30 years ago CHOIRBOYS was formed at founding member Mark Gable’s home in Church Point on the Northern Beaches of Sydney. Armed with little 4 track studio setup in the bedsit the boys would come around to do the demos that would lead us to our first recording deal with the Alberts label. It was the beginning of so much fun, laughter and the joy of not knowing what would happen next. It was a great time to start a band and it was a great time to be young. We developed our own "in" dialog, our own special way of seeing the world, our weird style of humour and of course our own brand of kinky Pub Rock. It was a year of not caring about the future and a great year of creativity, it was a year we started this journey and I would have to say it was the best year...
Fast Forward 30 Years…
30 years on and the terms perennial, exciting, exuberant and thoroughly entertaining
are still used to describe what CHOIRBOYS are all about. It is a fact that CHOIRBOYS
have been entertaining the young and old for 30 years, it is the fact that they
have sold multi-platinum albums and it is a fact that they have survived when
so many others have fallen. CHOIRBOYS have achieved legendary status in Australia
and not just because of their longevity; they have also achieved this because
they deliver time and time again. So why stay around so long? “Because
we bloody love it”, says singer Mark Gable. “CHOIRBOYS is exactly
the kind of band that I always wanted to be in as a kid”, “so why
not keep on doing it till you die?” Mark says with much enthusiasm. “It
is so much fun being in this band”, he adds.
It may seem that CHOIRBOYS have been laying low over the last year and after 30 years of touring, recording and releasing albums you would think they have the right to do so. In truth the band has been gearing up for a very exciting 2010. CHOIRBOYS will spend the year doing select shows and select tours. The band is also looking at the possibility of doing a new studio album. The last 24 months had been extremely exciting, with Mark Gable doing solo appearances both live and on television, also hosting his own radio show The Vega Sunday Session. This has only served to enhance and expand the band’s future. With their; Run To Paradise, Boys Will Be Boys, Struggle Town and Never Gonna Die, CHOIRBOYS will remain a part of Australian history for a very, very long time. CHOIRBOYS And its music have found their way into our hearts, ears, minds and will be a part of our lives for a long time to come.
